Nā Pali Coast, Hawaii
April 2026
The Famous Nā Pali Coast on Kauai, with it's deep jungle valley, steep green cliffs with cascading waterfalls, and the paradisal Kalalau Beach, which can only be reached by an 11 mile one-way arduous hike, is spectacular under normal conditions. As I hiked back to my camp in the Hanakoa Valley with the sun setting behind me, I rounded a corner to witness this double rainbow, and captured what may be the best photo I have ever taken.
Not 2 minutes after I captured this photo, that rain... the stuff making the rainbow, came blowing at me as I ran to escape the exposed ridge, and the rainbow itself, being dragged by the rain, came towards me, as if swallowing me through a portal on its march down the coast towards the sunset.
